The Rache - Accommodation
The Rache - an exceptional and unusual house sleeping up to TWELVE,
or book for EIGHT without the wing, (two more beds and a cot are available).
Created when eighteenth century farm buildings were made into a family home in 1995, the Rache
makes a stunning and extremely individual and comfortable holiday house, with plenty of space for
twelve people to spread themselves. It stands in the grounds of a Georgian mansion house on the
edge of the wonderfully named village of Haugh of Urr (the watermeadows of the River Urr), three
miles from Castle Douglas.
Downstairs:
Very large kitchen/dining room, with huge amounts of kitchen storage, Aga, electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge. Doors opening onto the terrace - perfect for summer breakfasts with barbecue and wooden garden furniture; overlooking lawn, tennis court and river.
Spacious sitting room with open log fire, T.V. and D.V.D., doors to terrace.
Lavatory, separate utility room with freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Upstairs:
Master double bedroom with ensuite bathroom,
Second double bedroom, two twin rooms, bathroom with bath and electric shower.
In the wing:
Large second sitting room with T.V. and D.V.D.
Two twin bedrooms, overlooking private walled garden (not accessible),
Lavatory and shower room – uniquely decorated with pebble floor and Japanese parasols on the walls!

The village pub has good eating, supplies milk and post office services, and newspapers can be ordered. Walking and cycling are perfect local activities (bicycles can be stored). Sailing, waterski-ing, riding, golf, fishing and country sports are available locally (Click for links). Tennis is by informal arrangement.
On hot summer evenings don’t go anywhere….. just bask in the sun!
