The Rache is a large, bright, airy self catering house, full of interest, history and surrounded by mature Estate gardens. The Rache offers a comfortable base from which to explore Dumfries and Galloway, a countryside rich in wildlife and stunning scenery, famous for food, art and books with the towns of Castle Douglas “Food Town”, Kirkcudbright “Artists Town” and Wigtown, Scotland’s “National Book Town”.
South West Scotland is bounded by a dramatic coastline of scenic paths, rocky coves and sandy beaches that look over the Solway coast to Cumbria, the Isle of Man and Ireland. There are many activities to choose from: there are over 30 golf courses, some are amongst the best championships courses in Scotland. There is a variety of fishing from loch and river fishing forttrout and salmon, to coastal fishing for bass, ray and pollock. There are over 30 gardens and nurseries open to the public, supporting plant varieties that thrive in our climate warmed by the Gulf Stream.
This lovely large holiday home is set in the grounds of the Spottes Estate and the garden that surrounds you is open as part of the Scotland’s Garden Scheme. Money raised by opening the garden is given to charity.
There are many large holiday homes in Scotland, but the Rache is special, it is a perfect venue for a gathering of family or friends to make a wonderful memorable holiday or short break. You can be totally private, yet you are just a short walk from the village of the Haugh of Urr, with its pub selling real ale and good food, and you are only three miles from the bustling market town of Castle Douglas with its boutiques and speciality shops.
The Rache has a large modern kitchen/dining room with a cozy Aga, spacious sitting-rooms, a terrace that runs the length of the house, and at the side of the large holiday home are lawns to relax on and a tennis court for your use. There is a delightful short walk to the nearby waterfall or the village amenities.
